Marc Ciurana

Positioning Research Engineer

Marc is a telecommunications engineer from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). After a short period at the IBM Company during 2000, in 2001 he started working in the field of location-based information systems and mobile data access in the Knosos Company. This experience made him feel attracted to the positioning and navigation world and in 2005 he started his PhD about indoor location using wireless networks at the Department of Telematic Engineering of UPC. During the PhD he has participated in several research projects supported by the Spanish Government (Plan Nacional de I+D and Profit) and the European Commission (IST LIAISON). At the same time in the last years he has been teaching and mentoring several Masther Thesis at the BCN Telecom Engineering School of UPC. Now he is about to defend his PhD Thesis and is also finishing Computer Science Engineering at UPC.
 
He joined CTAE in November 2009 as Indoor Positioning Responsible. His main topics of interest lie in the area of location technologies for indoor environments using wireless communications networks, tracking algorithms and location-based services. He is the author and co-author of several publications in these fields and he also serves as a reviewer for international journals and conferences. He loves music, cinema, soccer and snowboarding.
